And it wasn’t just blood sugar that came down. Cholesterol, blood pressure, and weight, all came down where needed. Everyone on medications got off most of them. By the end of 30 days the whole group felt physically and emotionally better. They were SIMPLY happier. If you work from your heart, it’s as simple as “change your ways, change your life”. Antioxidant supplements and heart disease | antiagingboomer.com

Chocolate, coffee, red wine no help to heart

According to the Heart Foundation, we should not use chocolate, coffee, red wine or antioxidant supplements for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease or for maintenance of heart health:  http://bit.ly/gHFX2t.  ...

Helen says: You would have to eat a massive amount of chocolate and drink a massive amount of coffee and red wine to get any benefits of the antioxidants they contain, while at the same time that would cause other health issues!

However, I do beleive that the Heart Foundation is burying its head in the sand about the value of taking anti-oxidant supplements to prevent heart disease.

Here is just one of many studies that prove otherwise – Improve vascular health.

For further information here is an informative video about Coronory Heart Disease.

My mother was on blood pressure medication for many years before she died of a massive heart attack.

Meanwhile I take optimal levels of antioxidant supplements, eat a healthy diet, visit my dentist to ensure that I have good oral health, exercise and enjoy red wine, coffee and chocolate in moderation.

Too Young to Get Old | antiagingboomer.com

Christine Webber  writer, broadcaster and psychotherapist,  has written a new book ‘Too Young to get old’ – the baby boomers guide to living life to the full.

Fabafterfifty asked Christine about her own experience of life after 50, and her inspiration behind the book.

Christine says “A lot of women are not as fit as they perhaps ought to be. I was appalled when I found out that baby boomers are the most out-of-shape of all generations. I thought there must be some error in the statistics! After all, we weren’t reared on junk food, and we learned to cook properly – and take-aways when we were young were limited to the occasional treat of fish and chips. But unfortunately, the stats were correct: 69% of female baby boomers are overweight. Clearly this is a worry. Being heavy can lead to the sort of illnesses (diabetes, some cancers, heart disease, joint problems) we all want to avoid if we are to live long and prosper. The other thing I learned – and I am by no means a financial expert – was that far too many of us haven’t really saved enough. And I think I’m probably one of them.” Read the full interview at Fabafterfifty .

Health benefits of vitamin D

Long known to be essential as an adjunct to calcium for strong bones and teeth, recent research suggests vitamin D is essential for healthy muscles and the immune system, and that it can help prevent allergies and juvenile diabetes.

Scientists have proved a long-suspected link between the "sunshine vitamin'' and the debilitating disease, a finding that could prevent people developing the condition in future generations.

Read more: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/8444739/Health-benefits-of-vitamin-D.html

Slowly the media is beginning to report the benefits of taking Vitamin D.

The best source is from the sun, but if you live in the temperate zones (latitude 37 degrees north and south of the equator) you will not get the sun exposure required for our bodies to make the 15,000 to 20,000iu of Vitamin D it needs each day.

Find out more:  Vitamin D for flu and disease prevention.

I take a Vitamin D3 supplement daily – Each tablet contains 1000iu and I take 2 daily and increase to 4 in the winter months.  My daily multi’s and Omega-3 also contain another 2000iu.

This helps to keep me healthy (along with eating good quality food).

We cannot get enough Vitamin D3 from the food that we eat, which is why I recommend taking Vitamin D3 supplements plus good quality multi’s.

Health benefits of vitamin C from antiagingboomer.com

The health benefits of vitamin C go well beyond a stronger immune system

Monday, April 11, 2011 by: Melissa Makris

(NaturalNews) Vitamin C is perhaps best known for its ability to strengthen the immune system. But this potent nutrient also has many other important roles that control significant aspects of our health.

When we get enough in our diets, vitamin C helps detoxify our bodies, promotes healing of all of our cells, and allows us to better deal with stress. It also supports the good bacteria in our gut, destroys detrimental bacteria and viruses, neutralizes harmful free radicals, removes heavy metals, protects us from pollution, and much more.

Unfortunately, most Americans are not getting anywhere near enough of this vitamin to experience these health benefits. That's especially true for our children.

Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/032027_vitamin_C_immune_system.html#ixzz1JFRKfOgk

I take a comprehensive Vitamin C supplement daily – Each tablet contains 600mg and I take 2 daily and increase to 4 in the winter months.

This helps to keep me healthy (along with eating good quality food).

As we are unable to tell how much Vitamin C we are getting from the food that we eat, I do recommend taking Vitamin C supplements plus good quality multi’s.

New technology for testing thyroid function

Thyroflex is a new technology for testing thyroid function; that is over 85% accurate, and gives immediate test results.

In this video, naturopath David Holden explains the Thyroflex test

Yesterday as part of my health check, I had the Thyroflex test done.

I have never had my thyroid levels checked previously.

I was surprised to learn that I have a low thyroid even though my only obvious symptom is being overweight.

This was a big surprise to me.

However, it is simply treated (if you count losing weight as simple..).

I now add ‘Iodral’ iodine tablets to my supplement regime to normalise my thyroid, and I will be working on weight reduction.

I will be having another check in 6 weeks.  I look forward to reporting some improvements!

Brought to you by Healthy Aging Resources.

Improve Wellness, Vitality & potential Longevity

VLA™ technology gives scientific answers where none existed before. Using breakthroughs in technology developed by Harvard University & other leading research databases you can now have revealed to you in a simple, quick test significant markers than reveal electrically key parameters to improve Wellness, Vitality & potential Longevity. Watch a video from David Holden explaining how VLA™ technology works.

Yesterday I had a revealing VLA test done.

My fitness levels were better than I thought.

My weight was not a surprise and something that I know I will have to work more at.

And my hydration levels were low, which again is not a surprise because I have been glued to my computer working on my latest project (I now have a bottle of water on my desk...).

I have good ATM muscle quality which can be improved further.

Now I have some scientific guidelines to start from, and I have another appointment in 6 weeks.

What I like about David Holden’s approach is that he helps people to reach optimum health – not just average.

He also is helping me incorporate more strenuous exercise into my normal routine – I enjoy walking, so David suggested that I wear velcro weights on my ankles and wrists when out walking; and every second day, to jog, walk, jog, walk.  I am ready for the challenge to get fitter and healthier!
